Are you an adrenaline junkie who can't get enough of zombie apocalypse games, then this is the game for you! Recently, I finished playing "The Last of Us Remastered" on PS4 and loved it. If you love being thrilled as a gamer then you should check out this game.
Compelling Storyline
The Last of Us is an action game that linearly takes you through Joel's story (main character) in the setting of the zombie apocalypse. It has all the elements of the zombie apocalypse, featuring close encounters with the undead, scavenging scarce resources, fending off hostile humans, and traversing various terrains of the U.S. The story and the character development are similar to a movie with the difference being that you are playing the main character. The game offers many cinematic cut scenes at major checkpoints that intrigue and entertain. If you are a gamer like me who loves a good story, then this is a winner.
Action Gameplay
The gameplay is mostly mission-oriented and guides you through a myriad of obstacles to accomplish a set number of objectives. There are six difficulty levels that the game offers which are very light, light, super easy, hard, survivor, and grounded. I opted to play the game on hard since this was my fourth game on the PS4 and was comfortable with the controller at this point. On the hard level, resources such as ammunition for weapons are minimal, enemies will detect you more easily and are harder to kill. It was challenging, but I like this type of gaming where my character repeatedly dies (sadistic laughter).
The game is mainly point-and-shoot with an array of weapons that you can choose from and upgrade. I felt that it encouraged you to stealth kill most of the enemies otherwise they tended to swarm you. It also offered a myriad of puzzles that had to be cleared to progress to the next area of the game.
Downsides
Though this is an amazing game, I need to disclose that the graphics are that of an older game and not comparable to newer games. Personally, I love all sorts of games, and the graphics of older games make me feel nostalgic. So, if graphics are important to you, this might not be the game for you. Also, this is not an open-world and exploration type of game and it has a fixed linear progression. If you are someone who is looking for these elements, then you might not like this game.
Final Thoughts
This game gets a high score from me and I am looking forward to playing "The Last of Us Part II" which is a continuation of the story. Overall, an amazing game with an intricate storyline, action-packed gameplay, and endless swarms of zombies chasing after you.
