Sheltered warmth in submerged biological fluids.
Safe within calcified shell of the mother’s creation.
Nourished gently and deep slumber uninterrupted.
Lucid dreams of life in color beyond physical defenses.
Slow physical transformation within perfect stillness.
Created with raw instinct in the slowest of motions.
Unseen divine blueprint orchestrated in surreal moments.
Rhythmic heartbeat like a clock recording time that passes.
Desperate desire to break out of the dense shell uninhibited.
“Wait!” You must remain till the master’s work is fully completed.
"Incubation Period" is a poem that was inspired by the current season in my life which is a season of stillness. With some divine intervention, I found myself returning to my childhood home after two decades of living a nomadic life. It was during this strange state of stillness that I began to undergo some major transitions. It is only in the silence that the negative thoughts that I have been escaping from came rushing in like a tidal wave. I no longer could use the distractions of work to fend off the wounds and disappointments that I had harvested over the years.
It was in the stillness that I began to do the emotional work, heal, and started to discover my purpose in this world. This is not an easy state to be in since your mind is always geared towards distractions and prompting you to be busy, achieve, or do something. Well, this might just be me. A state of stillness is powerful since it forces you to sit in your own company and reconcile with your inner demons. And boy do I have a whole legion of them.
These were the emotions that prompted me to write these beautiful and powerful words. I hope you enjoyed this poetry and please feel free to drop me a comment on your thoughts or feelings that you felt as you read these words.
